SUN KEEPER – solar light for all

In September 2015, the United Nations committed itself to 17 Sustainable Development Goals. One of the central aims is affordable and clean energy. 1.1 billion people across the world do not have access to electricity. Sustainable solar products could be a real alternative here because they can provide the necessary electricity supply, especially in poor but sunny countries. Solar energy is not only affordable but also very environmentally friendly. The Terra Canis menu Sun Keeper supports the organisation LITTLE SUN - SOLAR ENERGY IN AFRICA. For every tin sold, 10 cents will go to this amazing light-bringing project.

Alongside food, water and a secure roof over your head, a reliable source of light and energy is one of the most fundamental needs in life. Solar lamps give refugee camps, schools and families a safe source of light and are also a healthy alternative to petroleum lamps. To bring light to Africa's dark spots, Scandinavian artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen started to develop the solar lamp Little Sun five years ago: a small sun made from plastic that contains a solar element on the back. In order to charge the lamps with energy, they are hung around the neck on a strap and then give off 4-10 hours of light in the evening (depending on brightness).

Little Sun is therefore bringing solar light to the people who need it most. In sub-Saharan Africa, the project is building up local distribution systems and training small-scale entrepreneurs to earn their living by selling the small lamps. Little Sun also brings solar lamps and chargers to crisis regions, refugee camps and schools in regions without electricity. There, the small lamps not only promote educational opportunities for school children by ensuring longer reading times, but also create the basis for a sustainable future.

Sun Keeper: BEEF WITH COCONUT, SUN-RIPENED FRUIT & TURMERIC
Sun Keeper provides dogs with all their daily needs thanks to its highly healthy formula, and at the same time brings light into the darkness wherever required. The Terra Canis Sun Keeper menu is edible sunlight in the bowl for our four-legged friends. Juicy beef is accompanied by energy-rich sweet potato and sun-ripened fruit, namely mango, melon, kiwi and peach. Coconut flour not only ensures balanced gastrointestinal flora but is also a great source of valuable fibre. The sun-loving herbs lavender, thyme and marjoram provide lots of natural micro nutrients. An extra power boost is provided by ground sunflower seeds and linseed oil, which provides the healthy essential fatty acids in Sun Keeper. The superfood spirulina with its high content of chlorophyll, i.e. ‘green sunlight’, adds further numerous highly healthy micro nutrients and antioxidants to the bowl.

TREE LOVER – meaningful afforestation for sustainable forests

10 cents per tin for Fairventures
Wood is a valuable natural raw material. The intensive use of this raw material often prevents trees from growing old properly, as they are cut down early. Furthermore, forests usually no longer grow naturally, but are planned, planted and laid out. This also affects the quality of the forest and wood. Heavy machines are used to clear the wood, which compress the soil and thus change it: as a result, it absorbs less oxygen and of more limited use. However, forests are a natural asset that must be protected, as they provide an important habitat for many plants and animals. In addition, as natural oxygen suppliers, trees provide important support for our climate. Trees also have positive effects on us, as they are said to regulate blood pressure, calm our minds and sharpen our senses. With the Terra Canis “Tree Lover” menu, 5 cents per purchased tin will be donated to the organisation “FAIRVENTURES WORLDWIDE”.
Fairventures develops and manages large-scale reforestation projects in the tropics. Intelligent agroforestry systems and modern technologies are combined in order to create sustainable forests in which local people can live well and key protagonists in global value chains can contribute to afforestation, improved biodiversity and climate protection. The whole approach is demand-driven: together with the private sector, afforestation is planned in such a way that economically attractive raw materials are produced. Partnerships are formed with local communities to develop and test adequate local solutions. These solutions range from reforestation with fast-growing tree species to the production of sustainable timber and other forestry products and integrated agroforestry. This creates new income opportunities for local people. The Fairventures projects and products offer added value along the entire value chain and at the same time serve to counteract the climate crisis.

Tree Lover: GAME WITH CHESTNUT, BLACKBERRY & FOREST HERBS

OCEAN SAVER – One Earth One Ocean
10 cents per tin to One Earth One Ocean Seas of plastic, oil disasters, overfishing and ghost nets – our oceans are having to deal with a variety of increasingly serious environmental challenges. In order to survive, they need all the support they can get.

With the Terra Canis Ocean Saver menu, 10 cents a tin goes to the environmental project One Earth - One Ocean (OEOO). Since 2011, this non-profit organisation from Munich and Kiel has been pursuing the goal of cleaning up not only plastic waste in water bodies worldwide, but also pollution caused by oil and chemicals. The multi-stage “Maritime Waste Collection” concept for the removal of coastal marine pollution caused by plastic waste envisages collecting the plastic from waters around the world with a fleet of special waste collection ships and then recycling it or converting it back into oil. “One Earth - One Ocean" projects to remove plastic waste from waters are currently underway in Cambodia, Brazil, Indonesia and Egypt (2020). Special waste collection ships called SeeHamster and SeeKuh are used for this purpose. Another SeeKuh will start operation in mid-2020. In addition, the association is engaged nationally and internationally in the research of microplastics as well as in educational work, awareness raising and documentation on the subject of marine littering. As early as 2013, OEOO was awarded the renowned GreenTec Award, Europe's largest environmental and economic prize, for its concept of maritime waste collection. In 2019, the association was awarded the federal ecodesign prize by the Federal Ministry for the Environment for its new waste recycling ship concept SeeElefant (planned for 2021).

Ocean Saver: DUCK WITH BEETROOT, SEA BUCKTHORN & TREASURES OF THE SEA
The Ocean menu offers many great, healthy ingredients from the coast and sea – without resorting to overfished fish or endangered marine plants. Because a healthy sea and an intact coastline can offer many healthy treasures, including for the dog. In the Ocean Saver menu, juicy duck meat meets energy-rich millet, vitamin-rich beetroot and vital substances from the sea (Sango coral, seaweed, sea salt). Coconut flour and fennel not only help preserve the right balance of gastrointestinal flora, but are also a great source of valuable nutrients and fibre. Sea buckthorn provides a high amount of vitamin C for a strong immune system that can withstand even strong sea breezes, while cod liver oil provides power, valuable fatty acids and additional vitamins. Aromatic herbs such as lovage, lavender and sage as well as natural additives round off the healthy coastal menu.
