The organisation and its aims
Assistenzhunde Bayern e. V.
Assistenzhunde Bayern e.V. supports people with disabilities in realising their dream of having an assistance dog. It does not place or assign assistance dogs, but offers comprehensive advice and supports human-dog teams in their training by experienced dog trainers. It also assists with funding by enabling eligible teams to receive donations through the organisation to help pay for the costly training.
An important aim is to promote awareness and acceptance of assistance dogs in society. The association presents itself at events such as trade fairs to showcase the work of the dogs and campaigns for the rights of the teams, for example when they are denied access to shops, doctors' surgeries or public facilities.
Since 2018, the association has been working with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on a law for assistance dogs, which will come into force in 2021. This will regulate access rights and the standards for training and testing assistance dogs.
Assistance dogs give their owners stability, security and a zest for life. We want to promote this valuable bond and strengthen social inclusion.
